5 Fascinating Wikipedia Pages
Good evening my friends. It’s Cartwheel, and I’m writing to you from Earth on June 12th, 2025.
Here is a fascinating selection of less than 0.00000083% of over six million pages. Visit Wikipedia’s Main Page for their article of the day, news, and more! Show ’em some love.
1. List of phobias
The list includes words for:
- Fear of leaves
- Fear of beards
- Fear of adult men
- Fear of happiness
…and much more!
2. Ghost Army
Did you know there was a United States Army unit of 1,000 artists, engineers, and designers that repeatedly tricked the Germans during WWII? Neither did I.
3. Langer’s lines
You know how there’s a “grain direction” of paper or fabric? Like how paper is easier to tear one direction than perpendicular to that? Apparently our skin has this too, and it’s important to follow the lines in cosmetic surgeries to reduce scarring.
4. Total fertility rate
It means the average number of children per woman in her lifetime. Very interesting to look at the rates for different countries and what rate you need for a sustainable population.
5. Madeira wine
Apparently this wine is only made on a single island near Portugal, and it’s one of the longest-lasting wines. Though you usually don’t want wines to be oxidized, this wine is oxidized with heat and aging on purpose so it somehow lasts longer. ??!?!?!?
